So I think I mentioned in my last blog entry that I just found out that Depeche Mode will be coming in concert to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto 2 weeks after I will be leaving Canada to come back home to Virginia! How cruel! However Jason and I just discovered that Depeche Mode will be playing with She Wants Revenge near Washington DC, which is 6 hours from us, so we're going to buy some tickets this weekend! Woohoo I'm so excited. I haven't seen Depeche Mode in concert since...1990 I think? Maybe 91, I can't remember. They're awesome live and I am so excited now. What a freaky, awesome coincidence that DPM, my oldest favourite band in the universe will be playing with She Wants Revenge, my newest favourite band! HOW EXCITING! I hope we get great seats, we've decided to pay the big bucks so we can get the best seats possible. Seeing Depeche Mode will be a major event and we want to go all out for this one. I'm so psyched about this, I wish I didn't have to wait another 3 months before the concert!
I forgot to mention the neatest thing that happened this past weekend: When Jason and I were driving back home from Williamsburg VA, we saw a wild Bald Eagle! I have never in my life seen a wild Bald Eagle. I've seen them in zoo's, I've even seen them in a Bald Eagle habitat in Dollywood (no kidding), but I never thought I'd see one wild, not in the USA. My Dad tells me that it's not uncommon to see one back home near the Grand River, which I find very exciting! I've read that they have been trying to reintroduce them to the wild down here, so I hope that's all working out well...I know that they are flourishing in Canada, so that's great too. I think as of 1995 they have been removed from the endangered species list, which is very cool.
Speaking of animals, I've had quite a dissapointment regarding my plans to foster. I mentioned that I would be fostering for the Lonesome Pine Animal Rescue, well that's still all a-go, but they haven't needed my services as of yet. So I looked up another animal rescue club that was obviously in desperate need of fosters, and I found one that is about an hour from my house. Since I live in the middle of no where, an hour away isn't too bad. So I emailed them and told them that I could take in a whole slew of dogs...I saw on their website that there was a Mommy dog and her 5 puppies, plus there was a cage that had 3 Australian Shepherd mixes that were about to be euthanized any day. So I wanted to take all of them; I've got the room for them, I might as well take as many as I can! So I emailed this rescue club, and I got back this almost completely iliterate e-mail from some woman who didn't even give me her name, and I had no clue what she was saying at all. So I emailed her back and she basically told me that I need to forget about them and find a rescue closer to where I live. So I emailed her and told her that there isn't a closer rescue, and that I have no problem driving an hour to pick up these little furry guys that need me. So she wrote back and told me, once again that I needed to find an animal rescue that was closer to me! I couldn't believe it! When have you heard of people turning down a desperately needed volunteer? I was so angry...so now 8 dogs will be euthanized because of that woman. The animal shelter those dogs are in is a VERY high kill shelter, and they desperately need foster homes for them to save their lives. I see dogs advertised at that Shelter on Petfinder.com that don't even stay for a week before they are put down. I was so upset, because I wanted to help these little guys so badly. I don't even have the heart to go back and look for them, as I'm sure that some of them have already been put down. I would have gone to the shelter and pulled them myself, but I don't have the money to do it. That's the only reason I haven't gone off on my own and started my own shelter, I just don't have the money to pull dogs from high kill shelters, or for vet bills for strays that may come in.
It's all so frustrating.
